RAINBOW MOUNTAIN TOUR FROM CUSCO FULL DAY

At SACRED VALLEY TOURS, we organize the Rainbow Mountain day trip from Cusco as a full-day private excursion to one of Peru's most photographed natural landscapes. The hike passes remote Andean villages and grazing llamas and alpacas before reaching the mountain's vivid mineral formations.

This Rainbow Mountain tour from Cusco is conducted exclusively on a private basis, meaning your guide and driver accompany you throughout the entire hike rather than leaving you to manage the ascent alone. Travelers can choose between hiking the full route or riding a horse for part of the way to conserve energy.

Since altitude and distance make this one of the more demanding excursions near Cusco, this Rainbow Mountain from Cusco option is best suited for travelers in reasonably good physical condition. At SACRED VALLEY TOURS, we handle transportation, meals, admission tickets, and guiding throughout the full day.

Itinerary

Day 1: Cusco – Cusipata – Phulawasipata – Vinicunca (Rainbow Mountain) – Cusco

We begin with hotel pickup in Cusco (3,399 masl) at 7:00 am, driving approximately 2 hours toward the South Valley until reaching Cusipata, where we stop for a nutritious breakfast and a final opportunity to use proper restroom facilities before continuing. From Cusipata, we continue for another hour to the community of Phulawasipata (4,600 masl), the starting point of the hike, where travelers pass through typical Andean scenery with herds of alpacas and llamas, along with views of Ausangate Mountain and the surrounding red-colored peaks and green valleys. After a hike of approximately 1.5 hours, we reach Vinicunca, the Rainbow Mountain, at 5,036 masl, where we have free time to take photographs before beginning the descent along the same trail back to our waiting transportation for the return drive to Cusco.
