Day 1: Machu Picchu Private Tour Itinerary
Your Private Machu Picchu Tour begins with hotel pickup in Cusco at 3,399 masl. From there, you travel by private vehicle for around two hours to the Ollantaytambo train station at 2,846 masl. Along the way, you pass through the Sacred Valley and see Andean villages, farmland, and mountain scenery. At the station, you board the train to Aguas Calientes, located at 2,040 masl. The train follows the valley through changing landscapes as you travel toward Machu Picchu.
After arriving in Aguas Calientes, you take a 30-minute bus ride up the mountainside to Machu Picchu at 2,430 masl. At the entrance, your tickets are checked before the guided visit begins. With your local English-speaking guide, you explore the main areas of the Inca citadel and learn about its history, architecture, and purpose. The visit includes important sites such as the Main Plaza, Temple of the Three Windows, ceremonial areas, and ancient terraces built into the mountainside.
Following the guided visit, you have time to enjoy lunch in Aguas Calientes. Lunch is not included, giving you the freedom to choose where and what you would like to eat. Afterward, you return to the train station for your journey back to Ollantaytambo. The return train offers another opportunity to enjoy the changing scenery of the Sacred Valley before arriving at the station.
At Ollantaytambo, your private vehicle will be waiting to take you back to Cusco or your preferred location in the Sacred Valley. You can relax during the final drive after your visit to Machu Picchu. Arrival in Cusco is expected at around 8:00 pm, depending on the train and road conditions.
