The Sacred Valley of the Incas stretches between Cusco and Machu Picchu and is known for its archaeological sites, Andean landscapes, traditional communities, and cultural traditions. Depending on your interests, your tour can include Pisac, Ollantaytambo, Chinchero, Maras and Moray.
This option works especially well if you have limited time in Cusco or want to visit the valley before continuing to Machu Picchu. Your route and stops can be arranged around your travel plans, giving you more control over how you spend your day.
Pickup is available from hotels in Cusco or the Sacred Valley, with drop-off at your preferred location in either area. If you are continuing to Machu Picchu by train, you can also finish your tour at the Ollantaytambo train station.
Itinerary
Day 1: Private Sacred Valley Tours
The private full-day Sacred Valley Tour begins with hotel pickup in Cusco at 6:45 a.m. You head first to Chinchero (3,762 masl), where you can learn about traditional Andean weaving and see how local artisans preserve techniques passed down through generations.
From Chinchero, you continue to Moray, an Inca archaeological site with large circular terraces built into a natural depression. The route then takes you to the Maras salt mines, where local families continue to harvest salt from hundreds of pools spread across the mountainside.
You then descend to Urubamba before continuing to Ollantaytambo (2,846 masl). Here, you have time to enjoy lunch at a restaurant of your choice before exploring the historic Inca town. Its impressive stonework, terraces, and ceremonial structures include the Temple of the Sun and the Temple of Water.
After Ollantaytambo, you follow the valley toward Pisac (2,972 masl), where you can explore its extensive Inca terraces and traditional market. After your visit, you return to Cusco for drop-off at your hotel or a downtown restaurant.
