HUCHUY QOSQO FULL-DAY TREK
We offer the Huchuy Qosqo Full-Day Trek from Cusco to the Sacred Valley. The route follows sections of the original Inca trail through mountain terrain and Quechua communities. Along the way, enjoy views of the Andes before reaching the archaeological site of Huchuy Qosqo.
The trek crosses a mountain pass and includes a stop at Puma Marka for lunch. From there, the trail descends through farming terraces and canyons toward Huchuy Qosqo. The site features terraces, irrigation channels, and stone structures overlooking the Sacred Valley.
This full-day Huchuy Qosqo trek is a practical option if you plan to continue to Machu Picchu by train. It offers a taste of highland trekking without a multi-day commitment. The service includes transportation, lunch, admission tickets, and a local guide.
Itinerary
Day 1: Huchuy Qosqo Full Day Trek Itinerary
We begin the Huchuy Qosqo Trek in the community of Qenko (3,800 masl), about 1 hour and 30 minutes by car from Cusco. After a 30-minute walk, we reach the highest point of the day at 3,840 masl. On clear days, you can see the Sacred Valley between the surrounding mountains.
From the pass, we follow a hillside trail for about an hour to Puma Marka. Here we stop for lunch and visit more Inca ruins. Then a well-preserved Inca trail leads downhill for another hour to Huchuy Qosqo (3,650 masl). Along the way, you pass farming terraces and may spot wildlife such as deer.
At Huchuy Qosqo, we explore the site's irrigation channels, terraces, and homes and learn about its agricultural engineering. Afterward, we descend for about two hours to the village of Lamay (2,900 masl). There, our vehicle meets us for the return to Cusco or continue to Machu Picchu.
