Day 1: Maras, Moray and Salt Mines Private Tour

The Maras and Moray Private Tour is a fantastic option to explore part of the Sacred Valley of the Incas. You will also enjoy Chinchero with spectacular views of the sacred valley mountain ranges, and the green valleys with seasonal crops. During this service, you will be able to learn about agriculture, textiles, and the history of the Incas. Will start with a pickup from your hotel around 8 a.m. and travel to the archeological site of Moray. Our scenic drive from Cusco to Moray takes more than an hour. Along this journey, you will enjoy the sacred valley landscapes with lush yellow fields of wheat, and some countryside villages. Later, you will arrive at the mystic farming laboratory of Moray. The Incan site of Moray will show us four natural depressions, with a series of circular terraces built like an amphitheater. Most archaeologist conclude that Moray was built to determine the optimal conditions for growing crops. Although the village is from colonial times, this salt-producer center predates the Inca times. Here, one can find more than 4,000 salt pans built on the hillside of the mountain. These pools are filled daily by a salty spring water that comes out from the Mountains. The Maras salt mines produces pink and brown color salt, which are distributed in the sacred valley markets. The last destination to visit will be Chinchero. This is a small Andean community situated about 30 km from Cusco at 3,750 meters. The ancient Incan site offers a fantastic view of the surrounding landscapes.
