SOUTH VALLEY TOUR CUSCO HALF DAY

At SACRED VALLEY TOURS, we organize the South Valley Tour Cusco as a half-day private trip to a region far less visited than the Sacred Valley, despite offering equally significant archaeological sites. The route covers three destinations that together reflect both pre-Inca and Inca history in the area south of the city.

This South Valley tour Cusco includes Tipon, an Inca site dedicated to religious worship and agricultural experimentation, followed by Pikillacta, a fortified city built by the Wari civilization centuries before the Incas, and Andahuaylillas, a colonial village known for its richly decorated church. Our guide provides historical context at each stop throughout the excursion.

This Cusco south valley option suits travelers who want to explore lesser-known sites away from the more crowded Sacred Valley circuit. At SACRED VALLEY TOURS, we coordinate pickup, private transportation, admission tickets, and guiding throughout the half-day itinerary.

Itinerary

Day 1: Cusco – Tipon – Pikillacta – Andahuaylillas – Cusco

We begin with hotel pickup in Cusco (3,399 masl) at 8:30 am, heading first to Tipon (3,560 masl), an Inca site located approximately 40 minutes from the city, where the guide leads us through the main plaza, the agricultural terraces, and the impressive stone water channels built for irrigation. From Tipon, we continue to Pikillacta (3,250 masl), a fortified city built by the Wari civilization, whose tall buildings and archaeological remains date back to approximately 600 to 900 AD, well before the arrival of the Incas in the region. We conclude at Andahuaylillas (3,122 masl), a colonial village known for its Catholic church featuring seventeenth-century mural paintings, often referred to as the Sistine Chapel of America, before returning to Cusco with an optional stop to try chicharrón or guinea pig along the way, arriving back at your hotel by approximately 3:00 pm.
