HUCHUY QOSQO TREK FULL DAY

At SACRED VALLEY TOURS, we organize the Huchuy Qosqo trek as a full-day hiking adventure that connects Cusco with the Sacred Valley on foot, following sections of original Inca trail. The route passes through Quechua villages and remote mountain terrain before reaching the hillside ruins overlooking the valley below.

This Huchuy Qosqo trek 1 day includes a mountain pass, a stop at Puma Marka for lunch and additional ruins, and a descent through agricultural terraces toward the site of Huchuy Qosqo itself, known for its irrigation channels, terraces, and residential structures.

This trek works well as a short adventure for travelers planning to continue by train toward the citadel afterward, offering a taste of trekking without committing to a multi-day route. At SACRED VALLEY TOURS, we handle transportation, lunch, admission tickets, and guiding throughout the full day.

Itinerary

Day 1: Cusco – Qenko – Puma Marka – Huchuy Qosqo – Lamay

We begin in the community of Qenko (3,800 masl), reached after approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes of driving from Cusco, before climbing to the highest point of the day at 3,840 masl following a 30-minute walk, where clear weather allows views of the Sacred Valley between the surrounding mountains. From the pass, we continue on a hillside trail for about an hour to Puma Marka, where we stop for lunch and visit additional Inca ruins, before following a well-preserved Inca trail downhill for another hour toward Huchuy Qosqo (3,650 masl), passing agricultural terraces and opportunities to spot local wildlife such as deer along the way. At Huchuy Qosqo, we have time to explore the site's irrigation channels, terraces, and residential area, learning about its agricultural engineering, before descending for approximately two hours to the village of Lamay (2,900 masl), where transportation meets us for the return to Cusco or a Sacred Valley location.
